2018 MCUL Awards: DSA, Outstanding CU and Chapter Effectiveness

Another year of excellent work in the credit union movement has passed, and the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) would like to recognize the credit unions and professionals that truly showcased the mission of “people helping people” with the 2018 MCUL Awards.

The following are the winners of the Distinguished Service, Outstanding Credit Union of the Year and Chapter Effectiveness Awards:

Distinguished Service Award: Allan Kemp McMorris, Oakland County CU

Allan Kemp McMorris, President and CEO of Oakland County Credit Union, has made quite an impression on his peers over the last several years, providing guidance and wisdom to fellow industry professionals. AIlan′s contributions to MCUL, the Credit Union National Association, National Credit Union Foundation, Member First Mortgage, CO-OP Financial Services, CUES and countless other boards have made a significant positive impact on the industry and credit union members around the state. Above all else, Allan is an outstanding leader whose personal and professional commitment to our industry is undeniable.

Outstanding Credit Union of the Year: Alpena Alcona Area CU

Throughout 2017, Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union worked tirelessly to become an asset not only for its members and for Northern Michigan, but for the entire credit union industry. The credit union also exhibited an elevated level of involvement in many aspects of the community. They have staff members involved in nearly every local volunteer opportunity, from serving on various boards to involvement with the Chamber Ambassadors and holding internal fundraisers for numerous causes. Their tireless attention to community reinvestment, innovative products and services, financial literacy programs, legislative advocacy and financial strength make Alpena Alcona Area an ideal choice for Outstanding Credit Union of the Year.

Chapter Effectiveness: Metro East Chapter

The Metro East Chapter has made it a priority to make changes within the organization in order to increase engagement and support of MCUL’s advocacy initiatives. They have increased PAC fundraising numbers every year, and in 2017 raised that number by more than $11,000. Additionally, the chapter’s attendance at events like the MCUL and CUNA GACs, Hike the Hill and Capitol Day continues to rise. Through this heightened attendance, the chapter has built indispensable relationships with important national leaders and lawmakers. In 2017, the Metro East Chapter has brought chapter effectiveness to a new level.

The winning credit unions and individuals will be formally awarded at the Honor Awards Breakfast during MCUL/CUSG’s 2018 Annual Convention & Exposition in Traverse City, June 6–9.
