Financial Plus Credit Union and Monroe Community Credit Union Announce Intent to Merge
Financial Plus Credit Union and Monroe Community Credit Union have announced their intent to merge, bringing together two Michigan credit unions with deep community roots and a shared commitment to putting people first.
Pending regulatory and member approval, the partnership will create a combined organization with more than $2 billion in assets, expanding opportunities for members while maintaining the personalized service and community connection that have defined both institutions for generations.
For Monroe Community Credit Union, the announcement represents the next chapter in a story that began in 1953. Throughout its history, the credit union has continued to grow while remaining committed to local service and community impact.
The partnership carries special significance for Financial Plus Credit Union President & CEO Brad Bergmooser, who grew up in Monroe.
“Monroe isn't just another community on a map for me. It's home," said Bergmooser. "It's where I grew up, where my lifelong friendships were formed, and where the values that guide me today first took shape. That makes this partnership especially meaningful. Our goal isn't to change what makes Monroe special. It's to build on the strong foundation already in place, preserve the hometown relationships members value, and provide additional products, technology, and resources that will help members and the community thrive for years to come.”
The combined organization would bring together Monroe Community Credit Union's longstanding reputation for community involvement and local service with Financial Plus Credit Union's broader product offerings, expanded statewide branch network, and enhanced digital banking capabilities.
"There is a strong alignment between our organizations, from our shared values and commitment to our employees to the way we serve our members and support our communities,” said Kristine Brenner, President & CEO of Monroe Community Credit Union. “We are excited about what this partnership means for the future, including the opportunity to bring our teams together and retain all employees from both organizations. By combining our strengths, we believe we can create an even stronger credit union, provide greater value and expand opportunities for our members, and make an even greater impact in our communities.”
Together, the organizations believe the partnership will strengthen their ability to serve members, support employees, and invest in the communities they call home.
Additional details regarding the proposed merger, including the approval process and timeline, will be shared with members in the coming months.
