Michigan Credit Unions Outpace National Growth in Q2 2026
Michigan credit unions continued to demonstrate strong financial performance through the first half of 2026, with loan, savings and asset growth all outpacing national averages, according to the latest National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Call Report data.
Membership continued to climb, reaching 6.13 million members statewide, an increase of approximately 13,000 during the second quarter. Year-over-year membership growth stood at 1.1%.
Total loans at Michigan credit unions reached $84.3 billion in Q2, representing 8.5% year-over-year growth, compared with 4.9% nationally. That's an increase from Michigan's 7.8% annual loan growth reported in Q1 and 7.3% at year-end 2025.
Savings growth also climbed, reaching 9.0% year-over-year, compared with 5.2% nationally. Total savings surpassed $103 billion, while credit union assets grew 8.8% to $121.2 billion.
“Michigan credit unions continue to outpace national growth, and I think that says a lot about the trust members place in them,” said MCUL President/CEO Patty Corkery. “People are choosing credit unions because they know they’ll have a financial partner in their corner. Whether that means buying a home, growing a small business or simply finding better ways to save, credit unions are helping their members move forward and reach their financial goals.”
