Michigan Credit Union League Endorses Peters, Bentivolio for Congress
The Michigan Credit Union League is pleased to announce its endorsement of incumbent Congressman Gary Peters for the 9th House District covering most of Oakland County and Kerry Bentivolio, candidate for the 11th congressional House District covering northwestern Wayne County and southwestern Oakland County.
“We are proud to support candidates committed to working with local credit unions and who support our priority of serving local communities and helping small businesses get access to much-needed credit and capital that can help them grow and create jobs,” said MCUL & Affiliates CEO David Adams.
“Congressman Gary Peters has been a champion for common-sense bipartisan financial solutions that benefit our local economy,” Adams added. “We’ve been proud to work with him on programs that help businesses access capital and loans, such as the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act of 2010 and the State Small Businesses Credit Initiative, and we look forward to working with him on future programs that contribute to the turnaround of our state and our nation’s economy.”
Peters, a Democrat from Bloomfield Hills, has served in Congress since 2009, and currently sits on the House Financial Services Committee. A military veteran, Peters served overseas after the 9/11 attacks. Before joining Congress, Peters was a financial manager at Merrill Lynch, a senior analyst at the Michigan Department of Treasury and an arbitration panelist for the New York Stock Exchange.
Bentivolio, a Republican from Milford, is a teacher and an Army veteran who served in Vietnam and Iraq. A business owner and Milford resident since 1982, Bentivolio and his wife Karen live on a small farm raising reindeer trained to pull Santa’s sleigh in parades and special holiday events. They also maintain a small flock of chickens, a 25-hive apiary of honeybees, and a 115-vine vineyard.
“Kerry Bentivolio is the best candidate in the 11th congressional House District,” Adams said. “Mr. Bentivolio’s experiences as a teacher, small business owner, military veteran and community leader give him a strong understanding of what families and small businesses need, and credit unions look forward to working with him so we can help move Michigan’s economy forward.”Go to main navigation
