Former OUR Credit Union CEO Passes Away

TomOn Feb. 28, OUR Credit Union mourns the loss of former President and CEO, Thomas P. Zamberlan. According to the credit union, he passed away peacefully in the company of his family at the age of 81.

Zamberlan had an infectious laugh, was fondly referred to as “Mr. Z” and demonstrated his passion for giving back. He served for many years on the executive boards of the Oakland County Chapter of Credit Unions and the Royal Oak Foundation for Education until his retirement in 2012, after 26 years of service.

Zamberlan’s steady and strong leadership was key to the success of the credit union. The economic downturn brought many challenges that required a different kind of insight and management to keep the credit union financially stable. He positioned the credit union for continued growth with two new locations, the first new branches the credit union had seen in 20 years.

"Tom believed strongly in the credit union movement and helping all staff grow to their fullest potential both at work and on the golf course, as Tom was also an avid golfer,” said Tina Dix, OUR Credit Union's current president/CEO.

“Tom was a huge Credit Union System supporter," said MCUL President/CEO Dave Adams. "He valued the cooperative model at all levels and was a trusted and respected friend. Our deepest sympathies go out to Tom’s family.”

Zamberlan, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in management from Wayne State University in 1974, was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served overseas in Japan.

In retirement, he continued to give back and spent quality time with his wife Diane, their children and grandchildren.
