Michigan Credit Unions Rank Among Nation’s Leaders in Financial Education

Michigan credit unions continue to demonstrate their commitment to financial education, earning some of the top rankings in the country in the Credit Union Financial Education Network (CUFEN) 2026 Annual Report.

According to the report, Michigan credit unions ranked:

Altogether, reporting Michigan credit unions reported reaching 122,330 youth and adults through financial education efforts – an impressive reflection of the commitment credit unions across the state continue to make in improving financial well-being in their communities.

Michigan’s impact is especially noted in youth financial education. In addition to reaching the second-highest number of students nationally, Michigan credit unions delivered more student financial education presentations than any other state included in this report.

“Michigan credit unions continue to show what it means to put financial well-being into action,” said Andrea Tucker, Executive Director of the Michigan Credit Union Foundation. “These numbers represent thousands of conversations happening in classrooms, credit unions and communities across our state – helping people build knowledge, confidence and skills they can carry with them throughout their lives. I’m incredibly proud of the commitment Michigan credit unions continued to make to financial education.”

Several Michigan credit unions were also recognized among the national leaders within their respective asset categories.

Michigan credit unions appearing among CUFEN’s top performers include Limestone Financial CU, LOC Credit Union, Extra CU, TRUE Community CU, TLC Community CU, Diversified Members CU, PFCU, Michigan State University FCU, and ELGA CU.

And Michigan’s impact is likely even greater than the numbers show.

MCUF knows that many additional Michigan credit unions are providing financial education in classrooms, workplaces and communities across the state. CUFEN’s rankings reflect the activity that is reported, making participation from Michigan credit unions critical to telling the full story of our collective impact.

MCUF encourages all Michigan credit unions providing youth and adult financial education to report their presentations and participants to CUFEN. The more credit unions that participate, the more complete our statewide picture becomes – and the better we can demonstrate the reach and impact of credit union financial education in Michigan.

CUFEN accepts financial education presentation data during designated reporting periods throughout the year. Learn more about CUFEN reporting and upcoming reporting opportunities here.

Their recognition spans categories including students reached, adults reached, student presentations delivered and adult presentations delivered.

CUFEN’s annual report highlights financial education efforts reported by credit unions across the country and provides a snapshot of the collective impact credit unions are making through youth and adult financial education.

The Michigan Credit union Foundation congratulates all Michigan credit unions and financial educators contributing to these efforts and continuing to make financial education accessible in communities throughout the state
