MCUL's Team Behind the Scenes: Andrea Tucker
MCUL's Team Behind the Scenes is an article series running through the end of the year that's designed to give the Michigan credit union community more insight into the people who make up our dedicated team.
What was your first job?
My first job was as a bagger at a local grocery store. Back then, we actually bagged customers’ groceries and helped them load them in their car. I also worked at a local ice cream shop and picked strawberries that were sold at a local farm.
Who has been a major influence in your career and why?
My former CEO (Heather Luciani) was a big influence on my career within the credit union movement here in Michigan. Heather was always encouraging of my interest and growth — from helping me create and fill a position that didn't previously exist, that played to my strengths and interest, to pushing me outside my comfort zones and always encouraging me to do, learn and experience more. All of that allowed me to build a network, learn more about the credit union industry and my area of expertise (financial education), as well do things I never thought I was capable of — all of which lead me to where I am today.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
A quote that I love instead of advice (but could be looked at as advice): "Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. The only way to do great work is to love what you do." - Steve Jobs
What do you love about the credit union movement?
The credit union movement is unique. One thing that I personally love about it is that our industry is devoted to uplifting communities all over the world. Whether that's here at home, with credit unions working to support their local communities and small businesses, to national credit union organizations like WOCCU, that advocate for credit unions and financial cooperatives across the globe.
