Genisys Credit Union Provides Over 437,000 Meals, Earns Recognition for Hunger Relief Efforts
Genisys Credit Union is being recognized for its strong commitment to addressing food insecurity, earning the Philanthropic Leadership Award from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. The award highlights the credit union’s efforts in 2025, which helped provide 437,807 meals to individuals and families across the communities it serves.
With 1 in 6 people in Michigan facing hunger, the need for consistent support continues to grow. In response, Genisys contributed 560 volunteer hours and nearly $30,000 to Food Bank of Eastern Michigan programs throughout the year. These combined efforts played a significant role in expanding access to food for those in need.
Two major initiatives helped drive this impact. During Genisys Day of Caring, 131 team members volunteered at the Food Bank, moving 61,927 pounds of food in a single day. This effort resulted in 51,605 meals and marked a record for the amount of food moved in a four hour period.
Genisys also supported Giving Tuesday through a matching funds campaign. Contributions from staff and members totaled $17,340 and helped generate $64,367 overall. This effort provided more than 386,000 meals, making it the second largest Giving Tuesday in the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan’s history.
“Behind each statistic is a child, a family, a neighbor, a grandparent searching for access to reliable, nutritious food,” said Jackie Buchanan, president and CEO of Genisys Credit Union.
These efforts reflect Genisys’ ongoing partnership with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and its continued focus on supporting the communities it serves through hands on involvement and financial contributions.
