Community Choice Credit Union Distributes 3,200 Backpacks to Students Across Michigan

Community spirit was on full display July 30 as Community Choice Credit Union's annual Give Big Give Backpacks initiative brought together volunteers, families and community partners to help students across Michigan head into the new school year prepared for success.

The statewide effort distributed 3,200 free backpacks filled with essential school supplies at eight locations across Michigan. Each site provided 400 backpacks, helping ensure students had the tools they needed to start the school year with confidence.

The backpack giveaway took place at Community Choice Credit Union member centers in Livonia, Warren, Roseville, Jackson, Hillsdale and Muskegon (Harvey Street), as well as the Redford Community Center in Redford and Yack Arena in Wyandotte. Several locations saw lines form before the official 5:30 p.m. start time, and many sites distributed all supplies ahead of schedule due to strong community demand. Hundreds of volunteers participated in the coordinated statewide effort, working alongside community partners and donors to support families preparing for the upcoming school year.

“Give Big Give Backpacks is about more than providing school supplies. It's about showing students and families that their community is behind them,” said Kelsey Royer, Community Choice Foundation Specialist. “Watching volunteers come together to serve thousands of children was a powerful reminder that small acts of generosity create a lasting impact and truly bring our People Helping People mission to life.”

Each backpack was filled with essential supplies such as notebooks, writing materials and other classroom necessities. The annual initiative was made possible through the support of volunteers, donors and community partners committed to investing in education and supporting local families.

Give Big Give Backpacks continues to make a meaningful impact in communities across Michigan by helping students start the school year equipped for success while bringing together volunteers, donors and local partners in support of local families.
