PeopleTwenty-seven Michigan students were selected to receive a total of $27,000 in scholarships through Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union’s annual scholarship program, marking a record year for the initiative.

This year marked a significant expansion for the program, which was opened to any graduating senior or 13th year program student in the State of Michigan. A total of 48 students applied, and the AAACU Scholarship Committee increased the number of awards, selecting a record 27 recipients in 2026. The selected students represent schools across the state and plan to pursue a wide range of post graduation paths, including four year universities and trade schools.

Scholarship recipients from Alcona Community Schools include Addison Beatty, Cole Upper and Rilee Tracy, while Valerie Binge was selected from Atlanta Community Schools. Alpena High School students receiving scholarships are Addison Wesaw, Garrett Hamp, Gunner Moe, Gus Wirgau, Isabelle Kocan, Izzy Szymanski, Jack Caplis, Laura Poli and Reaghan Fitzpatrick.

Additional recipients include Caleigh Easter, Kyleigh Burt and Madalyn Schlak from Cheboygan High School, as well as Gretchen Weiland from Hillman High School. From Oscoda Area High School, Addison Russo and Maria Fulco were selected. Posen Consolidated Schools recipients include Alyssa Smigelski and Ella Hincka, while Rogers City High School honorees are Chelsea Nicole Myers and Chelsie Jo Bielas. Max Bardoni of South Lyon High School was also recognized, along with Ava Briggs, Hailey Felske and Hannah Potts from Tawas Area High School.

The scholarship program is supported through AAACU’s Community Investment Fund, which is funded by members who opt to receive their monthly statements electronically. In 2026, the credit union will donate up to $320,406.00 back into the communities it serves through this initiative.
