AAACU Donates $10,000 to Huron Pines in Support of Potters Point Land Protection Campaign
Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union (AAACU) recently demonstrated its commitment to preserving Michigan’s natural resources through a $10,000 donation to Huron Pines in support of the Potters Point Land Protection Campaign.
AAACU team members at the Alpena Main Branch presented the donation to Brenda Herman of Huron Pines. The campaign aims to purchase Potters Point, a 41-acre parcel of land along the Lake Huron shoreline in Alpena County and transform it into a nature preserve for public use.
The property is currently privately owned, and more than $1 million in funding has already been raised toward the project. Once protected, the site will be opened to the public and is envisioned as a space for low-impact recreation, potential kayak access and environmental stewardship education opportunities.
By supporting the Potters Point Land Protection Campaign, AAACU is helping advance efforts to preserve a unique section of Michigan’s shoreline while ensuring future generations can enjoy and learn from the area’s natural resources.
The donation was made through the credit union’s Community Investment Fund, which is supported by members who choose to receive their monthly statements electronically. AAACU pledges to donate $9 annually for each e-statement account, returning those dollars directly to local communities. In 2026, the credit union will donate up to $320,406 through the program.
Through investments like this one, AAACU continues to support projects that strengthen communities and protect the natural resources that make Northeast Michigan a special place to live, work and visit.
