United Bay Community Credit Union Members Awarded $20K in Small Business Grants from FHLBank Indianapolis
United Bay Community Credit Union (UBay) has announced that two of its small business members, Gilly’s Bistro of Bay City and Coleman Auto & Bike of Coleman, have each received $10,000 through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBank) Elevate Small Business Grant Program.
“At United Bay Community Credit Union, we’re proud to champion the small businesses that keep Michigan moving forward,” said Diane Abbonizio, President and CEO. “From helping local entrepreneurs access the resources they need to grow, to celebrating their milestones, we’re here to uplift the people and ideas shaping our communities one business, one dream, and one success story at a time.”
UBay nominated both businesses for the Elevate program, which provides funding for small business projects across Michigan and Indiana to help expand operations, upgrade facilities, and create local economic impact.
Gilly’s Bistro
Located in Bay City, Gilly’s Bistro is a locally owned restaurant known for its welcoming atmosphere and creative, Michigan-inspired menu. Founded by Gilly and Diana Gonzalez, the bistro has become a community favorite for its warm service and locally sourced dishes. With the help of the Elevate Small Business Grant, Gilly’s Bistro plans to purchase its location and complete building improvements, including upgrades to the outdoor porch area.
Coleman Auto & Bike
Based in Coleman, Coleman Auto & Bike is a trusted repair shop that serves both vehicle owners and cycling enthusiasts. Founded by Dean Retzloff, the business is known for its craftsmanship, honest service, and commitment to community connection. Grant funds will support remodeling inside the shop, including new shelving, updated counters, and interior enhancements to improve functionality and the customer experience.
“Ubay prides itself on building relationships with our business members. Submitting grant requests for Gilly’s and Coleman Auto and Bike was another avenue we could use to support their growth and success,” said Abbonizio. “This is the third year UBay has participated in the Elevate Grant program, and we will continue to facilitate these opportunities for our members.”
