North Central Area Credit Union Raises Nearly $30K for Michigan Children’s Assessment Centers Through Superhero September

North Central Area Credit Union (NCACU) announced the successful completion of Superhero September, the credit union’s annual, month-long fundraising campaign benefiting three Children’s Assessment Centers across Michigan. Since launching the program locally in 2018, NCACU and its members have raised more than $125,000 to help children heal and find hope after abuse. This year’s campaign added $29,836.09, thanks to the generosity of sponsors, members and community partners.

“Superheroes represent strength, bravery, and hope — qualities every child should feel,” said Tracy Wilson, VP of Marketing and Communication for NCACU. “Through this program, we raise essential funds for the centers providing prevention, treatment, and assistance in the prosecution of child abuse. We spread a message of hope for children who have been abused and provide support for their families. The beauty of Superhero September is that it allows all participants to make a small donation that cumulatively makes a huge impact.”

Community Highlights from Superhero September 2025

Superhero Kickoff Concert — Aug. 27, Standish Historical Depot (Arenac County)
More than 300 people attended an evening of live music featuring Bryan and Gary Dixon as Elvis and Frank Sinatra impersonators. Guests contributed through goodwill donations, a 50/50 raffle, and food purchases, raising $9,190.38 for CAN Council (Arenac County).

Superhero September Golf Outing — Sept. 11, Thornapple Pointe, Grand Rapids
About 40 golfers and sponsors teed off in support of Superhero September, raising $8,567.25 for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County.

Super Main Event — Sept. 20, Hanson Hills, Grayling
Families enjoyed a Superhero 5K, kids’ fun run, games, face painting, and a safety showcase featuring local EMS, police, and fire departments. The event concluded with a Frank Sinatra tribute by Gary Dixon, raising $9,940.41 for the Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center.

The Superhero Shopping Spree, sponsored by local Rotary Clubs and Walmart of Houghton Lake, generated $1,350 to purchase clothing, hygiene items, and snacks for children at the centers. Rotary Clubs from Grayling, Houghton Lake, and Roscommon supported the Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center, while the Standish-Pinconning Rotary supported CAN Council.

Throughout the month, NCACU branches were decorated with superhero themes and invited members to contribute at the teller line. Staying true to NCACU’s People Helping People philosophy, every dollar raised locally was directed to that branch’s nearest assessment center. NCACU branches raised a combined $4,276.70.

“We do the work, but our sponsors get to be the hero,” added Wilson. “We’re grateful to everyone who volunteered, donated, or simply showed up to stand with these kids.”
