MCCU Partners with Kellogg Community College to Support Students Success through Well-being Program

mccuAs part of its ongoing commitment to community support and financial wellness, Marshall Community Credit Union (MCCU) has entered into a one-year sponsorship with Kellogg Community College (KCC) to fund the college’s Bruin Baskets program.

The $15,000 sponsorship will fully fund the cost of goods for eight on-campus Bruin Basket locations for the 2025–26 academic year at KCC locations including the North Avenue campus in Battle Creek; the Regional Manufacturing Technology Center in the Fort Custer Industrial Park; the Eastern Academic Center in Albion; the Grahl Center in Coldwater; and the Fehsenfeld Center in Hastings.

The Bruin Baskets initiative, which began in 2019, was created by the KCC Foundation to support student well-being by offering accessible snacks like granola bars, microwaveable meals and other essentials. Now a familiar and valued resource across campus, Bruin Baskets provide free, grab-and-go snack options, helping students stay nourished during long, busy days.

The sponsorship opportunity grew out of a series of conversations between MCCU and KCC leaders. The focus was on how best to support students both inside and outside of the classroom.

“As a credit union, our mission is rooted in people helping people—and we approached this partnership with that in mind,” said Alyssa Jones, marketing director & brand manager at MCCU. “When we met with KCC leadership, we explored several meaningful ways to support both the college and its students, including the food pantry, scholarships and athletics. Every one of those programs is worthy of investment. But ultimately, we chose to support the Bruin Baskets because they provide real, tangible assistance to students on a daily basis—across all campuses—while reinforcing the college’s broader commitment to student well-being.”

In addition to providing financial support for the program, MCCU will offer helpful tools and tips on saving, budgeting and managing money – delivered through co-branded materials.

“It’s a small way to connect everyday needs with long-term success,” added Jones.

Michelle Williamson, executive director of the KCC Foundation, said the partnership is an inspiring example of what’s possible when two mission-driven organizations come together to put students first.

“We’re incredibly grateful for MCCU’s investment in our students’ well-being,” said Williamson. “By helping us keep the Bruin Baskets stocked and accessible, they’re not just filling shelves—they’re fueling persistence, focus and ultimately student success. This partnership sends a powerful message: Our students matter, and our community believes in them.”
