FreeStar Financial Foundation Raises $10,000 at Charity Bowling Event
FreeStar Financial Foundation raised $10,000 at its first Charity Bowling event, held at Shore Lanes in St. Clair Shores. The funds will benefit CARE of Southeastern Michigan and The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund.
CARE of Southeastern Michigan provides support for children in families facing substance abuse and other challenges, offering a family-centered approach to improve long-term outcomes. The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, an all-volunteer organization, supports veterans with housing and transportation assistance, living expenses, group therapy and mental health services.
The Charity Bowling event drew 200 participants for nine-pin no-tap bowling, raffle prizes and pizza. Sponsorships from local businesses supported the lanes, raffle baskets and a Cooler of Cheer raffle. Tickets were promoted through FreeStar Financial Credit Union’s branches, website and social media, helping the Foundation meet its attendance goal.
“It is always humbling to witness our community come together with such enthusiasm and generosity to support those in need,” said Vicki McIntosh, FreeStar Financial Foundation board member. “This event goes beyond banking—it's about fostering a sense of belonging, building connections, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of at-risk children and our nation’s heroes.”
As a result of the event, the Foundation presented $5,000 checks to each organization.
Susan Styf, CEO of CARE of Southeastern Michigan, expressed her gratitude: “Thank you for supporting the community and helping the children in our programs. These funds go a long way toward providing healthy meals and enriching activities at our camps. The kids especially loved your interactive ‘Adulting’ financial education—it was one of their favorite parts of the week!”
Rob Grimaldi, Volunteer Board President of the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, also shared his appreciation: “We are deeply honored to be selected as one of this year’s charity partners. Your support and commitment will make a lasting difference in the lives of the veterans we serve.”
Looking ahead, the Foundation plans to expand its events. “We’re excited to continue this journey, build momentum, and create even more impactful and unforgettable events,” said McIntosh.
