Frankenmuth Credit Union Celebrates Credit Union Week with $33K in Community Impact

Frankenmuth Credit Union (FCU) took this year’s National Credit Union Week celebration to new heights, combining community service, local business support and member engagement to highlight the credit union philosophy of People Helping People.

The week began on October 13 with CU Kind Day, featuring FCU’s annual Columbus Day gathering. Staff met at the Uptown North Main banquet facility to make more than 100 fleece tie blankets for Sleep in Heavenly Peace – Saginaw, followed by a presentation from Folds of Honor CEO and founder Lt. Colonel Dan Rooney.

The day concluded with FCU’s Hope Tree Auction, an employee-funded event featuring games, live and silent auctions, and friendly competition — all benefiting causes in the communities FCU serves. This year, the event raised $29,902 to support six local organizations: the CAN Council (Child Abuse and Neglect), the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night, Love for A Child, the Saginaw Food Club, Underground Railroad, and Wellspring Bethesda.

Later in the week, FCU joined credit unions across the state in CU Lunch Local, a day dedicated to supporting local restaurants. FCU staff ordered from 37 eateries, generating $3,125 in local business impact. Members were also treated to popcorn in the lobbies throughout the week, while employees joined in themed dress-up days, including Favorite Character Day, Outdoor Activity Day and Team Spirit Day.

“National Credit Union Week continues to be one of our favorite weeks of the year. It is a fun time for members and staff as we engage in some unique activities, but more importantly, meaningful contributions are made to our communities. Between our Hope Tree Auction and CU Lunch Local, our staff contributed over $33,000 to business and nonprofit organizations serving our region. At FCU we truly believe that we are all better when we work together,” said Vickie Schmitzer, CEO of Frankenmuth Credit Union.
