Extra Credit Union Receives EIFLE 2026 “Game of the Year” Award for Financial Education
Extra Credit Union has been recognized with the 2026 “Game of the Year” award from the Institute for Financial Literacy through its 20th Annual Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Awards.
The award recognizes innovation and excellence in financial literacy education programs worldwide. It was presented during the Annual Conference on Financial Education held in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Extra Credit Union received the honor for its Credit Card Scavenger Hunt, an interactive educational tool designed to help students better understand credit cards, responsible spending and financial decision-making.
“We are incredibly proud of this recognition and what it represents for Extra Credit Union,” said Ruthann Varosi, Vice President of Marketing at Extra Credit Union. “This award reflects the commitment our team has to financial education and the hard work, creativity, and collaboration that went into developing resources that truly connect with students. Financial literacy continues to be a priority throughout our organization, and we remain dedicated to providing tools that help individuals build stronger financial futures.”
According to the Institute for Financial Literacy, the EIFLE Awards were established to acknowledge the accomplishments of those advancing financial literacy education through innovative programs, services and educational resources.
“Creating the Credit Card Scavenger Hunt was both meaningful and fun for our team,” said Lacey Cornell, School and Community Relations Coordinator at Extra Credit Union. “We wanted to create an interactive learning experience that students would genuinely enjoy while helping them better understand how credit cards work, the importance of responsible spending, and how financial decisions can impact their future. Seeing the game recognized on a national level is incredibly rewarding.”
Financial literacy remains a central focus for Extra Credit Union through partnerships with local schools, classroom presentations and educational initiatives designed to support students and families both inside and outside the classroom.
“At Extra Credit Union, supporting schools and students is part of who we are,” said Ashley Fordyce, School and Community Relations Coordinator at Extra Credit Union. “We believe financial education should be accessible, engaging, and introduced early. Programs like this allow us to connect with students in a way that feels relevant and memorable while helping prepare them for real-world financial decisions.”
The Institute for Financial Literacy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting effective financial education and counseling, and administers the EIFLE Awards each year.
