Consumers Credit Union Receives Mastercard Small Business Impact Award
Consumers Credit Union has been recognized by Mastercard® with the Small Business Impact Award, marking the credit union’s sixth consecutive year receiving a Mastercard Community Institution Segment Award. The recognition highlights Consumers’ ongoing commitment to supporting small businesses through innovation, inclusion and improved access to financial services.
In 2025, Consumers launched a major initiative to modernize its small business services by combining digital innovation with personalized member support. A cornerstone of this effort was the rollout of a new online business loan application platform designed to streamline the lending process and eliminate paper-based workflows. Launched June 1, the platform saw rapid adoption, with 83% of new business loan applications submitted online by August.
Consumers also expanded bilingual member services to better support Spanish-speaking business owners. In January, a bilingual business services team member was promoted to small business banking specialist, focusing on loans under $200,000. Her outreach contributed to a:
- 30% increase in deposits
- 19% increase in loans
- 891 new Spanish-preference memberships
The credit union also grew its bilingual workforce from 35 to 42 employees, strengthening its capacity to provide culturally responsive service. These combined efforts supported a 14% year-over-year increase in business Mastercard lines of credit.
“This award reflects our dedication to empowering small businesses through technology and personalized service,” said Katie Stoll, vice president of payments. “By combining digital tools with human connection, we’ve created a scalable model that supports growth and inclusion for all members.”
Consumers Credit Union remains focused on supporting small business growth through digital solutions, inclusive services and member-centered programs. The Mastercard recognition underscores the credit union’s mission to make a positive difference for members and the communities it serves.
