Community Financial Introduces New Name: orsa credit union
Community Financial Credit Union announced that it will adopt a new name, orsa credit union, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. The change reflects the organization’s 75-year history and its stated purpose of protecting people and supporting Michiganders’ goals.
“This is an evolution of how we show up, not a change in who we are,” said CEO Tansley Stearns. “Our purpose, values and commitment to Michigan remain firmly in place. The name orsa gives us a clearer, more distinctive way to tell our story and grow our impact.”
The credit union stated that the name orsa is tied to its role as a protector and guide for members. The name is connected to Daisy, the organization’s bear mascot, and inspired by the Ursa constellations, described as symbols of orientation and guidance. The organization said the new name reflects a focus on care, courage and progress.
Board Chair Teri Kuehn said the decision followed an extended process. “This change was the result of thoughtful listening, analysis and planning,” Kuehn said. “As the credit union continues to grow its impact and innovate, having a distinctive and recognizable name strengthens our ability to serve members and communities across Michigan.”
Founded in 1951, orsa credit union serves more than 84,000 members across Michigan. The credit union reported that the name change will not affect member accounts, services or daily banking activities.
