American 1 Donates $5K to American Heart Association for Step to the Beat
Earlier this summer, American 1 Credit Union partnered with Jackson YMCA and Henry Ford Allegiance Health to donate $5,416 for funding and awareness for the American Heart Association through its inaugural Step to the Beat 5K event.
The 5K took place June 14 through June 30, 2021. To maximize event proceeds, American 1 Credit Union covered the costs of the event t-shirts and medals.
“Thank you to our sponsors, participants, and volunteers who helped make this event possible,” said Martha Fuerstenau, president/CEO of American 1 Credit Union. “I’m grateful so many people took the time to raise awareness for finding a cure for heart disease, while also being active themselves. Our financial situations have the ability to impact our bodies, both mentally and physically, and it’s our honor to help unite these organizations to impact our community.”
According to the American Heart Association website, the nonprofit organization’s main hope is that scientific research will lead to better treatment, prevention and ultimately a cure for heart disease – America’s number one killer.
“We’re grateful for community partners like American 1 Credit Union, who push for healthy, whole communities,” said Katie Langston, director of American Heart Association for Jackson and Washtenaw Counties. “The credit union took our mission to heart and jumped into action. With supporters like American 1, we’re one step closer to finding a cure for heart disease.”
