Alliance Catholic Opens First College Campus Branch at the University of Detroit Mercy
On Jan. 7, Alliance Catholic Credit Union (ACCU) opened the doors to its newest branch, located on the McNichols campus of the University of Detroit Mercy. This micro-branch, measuring only 350 square feet, will be the 10th branch in the ACCU network and the first of its kind for the credit union on a college campus.
“We’re excited to be expanding our involvement with the University of Detroit Mercy and launching this new branch concept,” said Rob Grech, president/CEO of ACCU. “We are hoping that the micro-branch approach will open the door to other possibilities within the Catholic community.”
The branch location, which is directly across from the Fountain Lounge and a newly installed ATM machine in the Student Union, allow for faculty, students and staff to conveniently handle their banking needs. The university approved transforming an interior storage unit inside the student union building into an exterior-facing branch, introducing an exciting retail element to the campus.
“We’re delighted to welcome Alliance Catholic Credit Union to Detroit Mercy,” said Joseph Eisenhauer, dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Detroit Mercy. “The entire university community will benefit from having financial services, such as bank accounts and student loans, available on the McNichols Campus. In addition, business students will gain valuable industry experience as interns at the new branch.”
The branch is open to all faculty, staff, students and alumni from 11:00am to 4:00pm, Monday–Friday.
“By opening this branch, we are giving the university community the ability to transact with us on campus,” said Christopher Frost, branch manager at the new location. “We will be staffing our branch with Business and Finance interns as well as Co-Op students from Detroit Mercy. We want to continue our mission of involving the community in our initiatives where we can.”
On Jan. 15, ACCU will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony with a blessing of the branch to celebrate the opening.
