Community Choice Credit Union Provides 423 Free Backpacks to Students
Community Choice Credit Union team members handed out 423 backpacks filled with school supplies during a backpack giveaway hosted at their Jackson Member Center on Friday, Aug. 2. The goal of the day was making sure kids receive the back-to-school supplies they need, while creating a fun experience for families. In addition to providing free backpacks, Community Choice partnered with Super Cuts to provide free haircuts for kids and Tiki Sam’s Wood Fired Pizza to feed the attendees. In total, 73 kids received a fresh haircut, and 720 slices of pizzas were enjoyed by families who stopped to enjoy the event.
This backpack giveaway is just one of five similar events that are taking place across this state this month. Families in Hillsdale, Holland, Jackson, Muskegon and Warren will benefit from Community Choice’s support of the community.
These events are one element of the credit union’s initiatives to make sure kids across the state are ready for the 2019 back to school season. Each of their 22 locations is collecting classroom supplies. Collected supplies will be distributed among teachers in the community with the intention of alleviating the financial burden of the back-to-school season for both teachers and families. “These giveaway events are so important,” said Jeremy Cybulski, community engagement manager. “Every child deserves to have the supplies necessary to focus on learning. Being able to help offset the costs to make that happen, for both parents and teachers, is extremely rewarding. We see it as paying it forward for everyone in the community.”
For the 2019-2020 school year, teachers are requesting assistance in stocking their classroom with the following supplies: disinfectant wipes, dry erase markers (variety of colors), granola bars, facial tissue, pencils, permanent markers, and self-sealing plastic bags (quart size). Anyone interested in supporting teachers with a donation is invited to drop off items at any Community Choice location.Go to main navigation
