Montague-Based Student-Run Credit Union Celebrates 10 Years
HarborLight Credit Union has had the opportunity to be a part of Montague High School for the last 16 years when Sheryl Hogle, the director of financial education, started giving classroom presentations on different financial topics. This desire to help educate the students and promote financial literacy led to the creation of the Wildcat Student Run Credit Union (SRCU) in the fall of 2008.
The Wildcat SRCU has employed a total of 41 students through the years, seven of whom have gone on to become interns and/or employees at HarborLight.
Over the years, the SRCU has transformed into more than a transaction-based operation that includes incentive-based games or challenges that promote financial literacy and mental math.
NorthStar Cinema, an area movie theater, currently features a video celebrating the SRCU’s anniversary. “It has been an incredible 10 years at Montague High School! We are grateful for the partnership and support from MHS teachers and staff,” said Hogle. “It has been a fun and impactful experience.”
