Michigan Credit Union Community Mourns Loss of Victoria McPharlin
Victoria Irene Melzer McPharlin, wife of DIFS Director Pat McPharlin, lost her battle with cancer on Jan. 12, 2018.
Vicki was born on Nov. 17, 1949 to Martin Melzer and Billie Melzer in Detroit. She was raised by her grandparents Martin Leoffler and Irene (Nana) Leoffler in Redford Township. Vicki and Pat, who were high school sweethearts, celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends at the Wharton Center on Sept. 15, 2017.
Vicki was employed at Michigan State University in the biochemistry department for more than 20 years. She was office supervisor and secretary to the chairperson. Vicki was a great fan and supporter of Michigan State University, creating several endowments to support the arts.
Vicki’s great love and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. Her children are Patrick (Nicole) McPharlin II, Timothy McPharlin, Steven (Christie) McPharlin, Brian McPharlin, Teresa Robinson, Christine McPharlin and Kathryn Hoyt. Her grandchildren are Jennifer McPharlin, Brendan McPharlin, Finnegan McPharlin, Kara McPharlin, De Andre Robinson, Brianna Robinson, Shyanne Hoyt, Morgan Hoyt, Alexis Walter, Lucus Balter and great-grandchild Darin Robinson.
Vicki loved her home on the lake and taking the grandchildren fishing. She loved playing cards, especially poker at a 6 a.m. tailgate prior to a MSU football game. Vicki and Pat had season tickets to MSU football, basketball and the Wharton Center. She traveled extensively in the USA, with many Vegas Trips. Her favorite trip was to Alaska with lifelong friends. Vicki loved to cook, knitting and crocheted gifts for the family.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Pat and the whole McPharlin family during this difficult time,” said MCUL CEO Dave Adams.
