Team One Supports Skilled Trade Training with MCUF Grant

Saginaw-based Team One Credit Union is partnering with the Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) to increase training for skilled trades in high demand in the area.

The credit union leveraged a Michigan Credit Union Foundation (MCUF) grant to provide a total of $20,000 to support high school juniors and seniors interested in skilled trades in Genesee, Tuscola and Sanilac counties through GMCA’s nationally certified pre-apprenticeship program. Students will receive training in electrical, HVAC, welding, carpentry, plumbing, STEM training, financial literacy and budgeting.

There are thousands of current and future high paying skilled trade jobs available, and this grant will provide students in these three counties an opportunity to pursue these career paths. The following video shows some students in GMCA’s training facility.

The impact of the grant isn’t just the individual lives of those who go through these programs, but filling these high-demand positions will build stronger communities. MCUF is using a forward-looking approach to their grant programs that not only affects people, communities and the state presently, but for years to come.
