Credit Unions Invited to Host Securing MI Financial Future Events
The Securing MI Financial Future (SMFF) initiative was created in response to Gov. Rick Snyder’s Special Message to the Legislature on Aging, delivered in June, 2014. In his message, the governor urged public and private sector financial experts to come together and develop a comprehensive package of financial tools and information for residents. “It’s never too late to plan for the future, and getting the right information through Securing MI Financial Future will greatly benefit those who have not yet had these important discussions with family members or financial professionals,” said Snyder.
Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) continues to coordinate the initiative in 2017, offering free events around the state to Michigan consumers to help them get the right information on how to start saving, budgeting, etc. Because MCUL is a gold sponsor of this initiative, DIFS would like to work with credit unions to bring this program/seminar to credit union locations at least once a month all over the state this year. The program will be about two hours in length and include individual QuickChecks along with three speakers. Hosting credit unions may provide a speaker if desired to discuss personal finance management and credit union products and services.
DIFS is seeking credit union hosts to help with the following:
- A location that could accommodate around 100 people at no cost to the SMFF program
- Space available for a 4-hour block of time
- Ability to provide desks/chairs for conducting QuickCheck sessions, non-commercial one-on-one sessions with a specially trained facilitator.
- Promoting the event to members and the community; DIFS will provide customized promotional materials/messages and will handle the event registrations
