Michigan Credit Unions Sponsor the High School Personal Finance Challenge

Funding from the Michigan Credit Union Foundation for the Michigan Council on Economic Education’s 2017 Personal Finance Challenge provides an opportunity for widespread awareness and activity for credit union financial education. The Michigan Personal Finance Challenge (link to attached flyer) is an opportunity for high school students to demonstrate their knowledge of personal finance by competing with other students across the state. Students participate in teams at their schools in an online qualifying round and 80 students from the top teams from regions all across Michigan will be invited to participate in the state finals competition at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago-Detroit Branch on April 24.

A Financial REALity Fair will be facilitated by credit unions at the Federal Reserve in the morning before the state finals begin. The state champion team will receive MESP scholarships and travel to the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City, Missouri on May 5 to represent Michigan in the National Personal Finance Challenge to win more cash and prizes!

Please encourage local high school teachers to register to participate on the Personal Finance Challenge webpage. The online competition starts March 20. The first 50 teachers who register and have at least 30 students take the online qualification test will receive a $20 Amazon gift card. When registering, teachers have the option of requesting a credit union financial education specialist to visit classes and help them prepare for the competition. Credit unions interested in helping teams prepare for the challenge with classroom financial education should contact Beth Troost, MCUF executive director by email or by phone at 800-262-6285,ext. 453.
