CU Advocates Needed in Lansing to Represent Michigan CU Members
Now is the time for Michigan credit union supporters to gather advocates and head to Lansing for the MCUL & Affiliates Government Affairs Conference, taking place April 20 & 21. With 2016 being an election year, it is paramount for credit union executives, volunteers and up-and-coming staffers to be actively engaged and current about timely industry issues.
Be sure credit unions in your chapter are signed up to participate. With the participation of more than 150 lawmakers and staffers, having your Chapter’s tables filled with local CU leaders is important to the success of this advocacy event.
The first day's packed agenda kicks-off with Dave Adams, CEO of MCUL & Affiliates, sharing recent league initiatives and discussing the importance of this year’s GAC. The first day also includes the "MCUL’s Legislative Issues Update," "House Financial Services Committee Forecast," "Legislator and Staffer of the Year Awards," "PAC Fundraising Awards and Lunch," "Regulatory Update," "Inside Track for 2016 and Beyond," "Political Advocacy Panel," "2016 State and Federal Election Forecast," "Senate Banking Committee Forecast" and a "Legislative Reception with Senate Members."
The second day features a "Legislative Breakfast with House Members," "Federal Advocacy Priorities: Credit Unions on Capitol Hill" and a "Regulator Roundtable," with the event wrapping up prior to noon. Other events include several high-profile speakers, legislative leaders and regulatory agency representatives. House Financial Services Committee Chairman and our 2015 Lawmaker of the Year Anthony Forlini, R-Harrison Township, will give attendees a forecast of what is to come in the second half of the year in the industry’s leading legislative committees.
The NCUA and DIFS will participate in a regulatory roundtable to discuss the hot button issues within the agencies. Lansing multi-client lobbyist Bill Wortz of Public Affairs Associates will enlighten attendees on the political atmosphere with elections on the horizon. Check the MCUL website to see the full agenda and access online registration.
Registration for the GAC is $149 per person for attendees from credit unions with assets over $50 million; $99 per person for those from assets with $50 million or less. A one-day registration option is also available for $99/$69 per person, respectively by asset size. Scholarship assistance is available for SAS credit unions, as well. Rooms are being held at a negotiated rate at the Radisson in Lansing until March 29.Go to main navigation
