Lake Michigan CU’s Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship Essay Contest Now Accepting Applications

Lake Michigan CU announced that the Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship essay contest is now open and the credit union is accepting applications. The scholarship provides high school seniors with the opportunity to win one of ten $2,000 scholarships toward their future academic goals. The scholarship honors the legacy of Lake Michigan CU founder Lloyd F. Hutt and his lifelong commitment to the credit union movement.

This year’s topic is “What should people remember that is too often forgotten?” Applicants will write an essay exploring the question, which will be evaluated by a panel of judges. The essay needs to exemplify creativity, clarity and originality.

The scholarship has provided over $291,000 in scholarships to local high school seniors. This year, 360 essays were received for consideration, representing 82 different high schools. High school seniors who are members of Lake Michigan CU or dependent children of Lake Michigan CU members are eligible for the program. The applicant must plan to enter a trade school, college or university in the upcoming academic year.

Awards will be paid to the recipient and high school in which the student is enrolled to provide financial assistance in the pursuit of further education. The deadline for the scholarship is Jan. 31, 2016. Applications can be completed at any Lake Michigan CU branch or online. Questions or concerns can be directed to Matt Cook.
