MCUL's Team Behind the Scenes: Rick Weaver
MCUL's Team Behind the Scenes is an article series running through the end of the year that's designed to give the Michigan credit union community more insight into the people who make up our dedicated team.
What was your first job?
I had a few small jobs in high school, but my first real job was as a driver for Two Men and a Truck.
What is your favorite project to work on at MCUL?
There are a few projects that I really enjoy working on throughout the year, but I think planning the MCUL/MCUF awards ceremony for AC&E is one of the more rewarding projects I get to work on. Seeing it all come together and witnessing the joy on the winners’ faces makes all the effort worthwhile.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Well there were the obvious dreams of being a professional basketball, baseball or football player, but when reality set in, I wanted to make movies in Hollywood (Michael Bay style). Then after a few years, I'd retire to the Caribbean, open my own beach bar, listen to Jimmy Buffett and entertain the tourists on vacation. Maybe one day?
What does a perfect day off look like for you?
An early morning tee time at a beautiful Michigan golf course is the ideal start. From there, as long as I end at the lake with my wife Emilie, a bonfire and music, it doesn't get much better than that. Of course, I love spending time with my three boys (7, 5, and 3) and sharing fun experiences, but the question said "day off,” right?
What do you love about the credit union movement?
When I joined the industry, I kept hearing how amazing and supportive the people are. It sounded like one of those "welcome aboard" clichés, but after six years, I’ve seen it’s 100% true. The credit union industry is all about collaboration, lifting each other up, and working for the greater good. I’m fortunate to work with incredible credit unions in Michigan and colleagues nationwide. I’m proud of where my career has taken me and honored to be part of an industry that genuinely makes a difference.
