MCUL's Team Behind the Scenes: Nangela Piersall
MCUL's Team Behind the Scenes is an article series running through the end of the year that's designed to give the Michigan credit union community more insight into the people who make up our dedicated team.
What was your first job?
When I was 12, I worked as a skate guard at Roll Arena skating rink in Anderson. It’s amazing that the rink is still around today!
What is your favorite project to work on at MCUL?
I love anything collaborative, like the ACE Golf Outing.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I aspired to be a veterinarian until I went through an internship at a local animal hospital. During that time, I realized I couldn’t bear seeing animals in pain.
Who has been a major influence in your career and why?
Outside of my wonderful parents, it would be my bestie, Jenny Horne, who currently resides in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was my first manager for 18 years at Crittson Financial, which was later acquired by Certegy. Jenny was incredibly supportive, providing the encouragement I needed to grow with the company from a young age. She still sends me inspirational quotes and always has my back as a friend and confidante.
Is there a book or podcast that has inspired you recently?
Does Stephen King or TikTok count? Lol.
What does a perfect day off look like to you?
Spending time with family and friends under the beautiful Florida sunshine, with palm trees swaying and playing with the grandkids in the pool, enjoying festive umbrella drinks and savoring the aroma of a fabulous BBQ.
What’s your favorite thing about the holiday season?
Experiencing the wonder and magic of the holiday season through my children’s eyes…oh, and snow until after Christmas Day. Then, I’m done with the white stuff.
What do you love about the credit union movement?
Engaging in community outreach, offering member-friendly rates, providing support to those in need and delivering solutions that improve financial literacy and creditworthiness — all of which enhance the quality of life.
