Illinois Legislature Extends IFPA Compliance Deadline to July 1, 2027
Early this morning, the Illinois legislature passed legislation extending the July 1 effective date for the Illinois Interchange Feed Prohibition Act (IFPA). The legislation now awaits the governor's signature before becoming law.
If signed by the governor, the extension would provide an additional 12 months, moving the deadline to comply with the IFPA from July 1, 2026, to July 1, 2027.
The extension would provide additional time for affected stakeholders to prepare for compliance with the law while ongoing legal and regulatory questions continue to be addressed. The legislation comes as litigation challenging the IFPA remains active and unresolved.
Organizations impacted by the law should continue to monitor developments closely and evaluate how the proposed extension may affect their compliance planning and operational timelines. While the legislation would provide additional time if enacted, the litigation challenging the law is still ongoing and could have implications for future implementation.
We will continue to monitor legislative and legal developments related to the IFPA and will provide more information as it becomes available.
