Board Meetings: Discuss Spring Leadership Development Conference

Now is the time for credit union CEOs and volunteers to be reviewing the agenda and deciding who will attend the MCUL's 2019 Spring Leadership Development Conference.

Conference materials have recently been mailed to all Michigan credit unions detailing information about the event that takes place April 26-28 at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mount Pleasant.

One particular session is of timely note, "Marijuana in Michigan: What it Means to Credit Unions," will be covered by Attorney Chuck Holzman. As Michigan voters recently approved the legal use and possession of marijuana for recreational purposes, credit unions have been experiencing a demand for banking services from members and potential members who are lawfully engaged in the manufacture, distribution, sale and related services. Holzman will address the issues of providing service to this industry and what a credit union should do if it discovers that existing members are engaging in these legal activities, but the credit union did not intend to provide such service.

A PDF of the brochure that was recently mailed may be found here to easily distribute electronically in board member meeting packets.
