Credit Freeze Legislation Presented to the Governor
Representative Joe Bellino introduced HB 5094, which amends the Security Freeze Act. Once signed, this legislation will prohibit credit reporting agencies from charging a fee for temporarily or permanently placing or removing security freezes on credit reports at the request of the consumer or the consumer’s agent. Prior to this legislation, consumer reporting agencies could charge a fee of up to $10 for the permanent or temporary placement or lifting of a security on a credit report. MCUL supported this legislation and thanks Representative Bellino for looking out for the best interest of Michigan consumers.
