Senator Peters Champions CUs at Annual Oakland County Chapter Meeting
The MCUL Oakland County Chapter came together for their annual meeting, last week. The large gathering of Oakland County credit union spokespeople, attorneys and MCUL representatives had the privilege of hearing from keynote speaker, U.S. Senator Gary Peters. Peters, a longtime friend and advocate of credit unions, discussed a number of topics relevant to the CU movement in Michigan.
Among some of the discussions was his support of increasing the MBL cap, providing regulatory relief to smaller financial institutions, stronger data security standards for retailers and maintaining tax exempt status. Peters also set aside time to offer attendees a Q & A session as well as opportunities to talk one-on-one.
“We are always appreciative of the Senator’s time and the insights he was able to offer regarding the upcoming election,” stated Jeffrey Rabanus, CEO of Metro North Federal Credit Union. “He’s shown himself to be a great supporter of the credit union mission. Peters told us he is campaigning to get on the banking committee for next year in order to be an even stronger champion for us.”
