Forlini Tells MCUL GAC He Wants to Help Improve Michigan Credit Union Act (With Video)

State Rep. Anthony Forlini, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, told credit union leaders at the MCUL & Affiliates GAC that updating the Michigan Credit Union Act would allow credit unions to better serve members.

Forlini, R-Harrison Township, said that while he believes some regulation is necessary, he is hoping to reduce the burden on credit unions. Click here to hear Forlini talk about the role of regulation in the industry.

“When I came into the industry 30 years ago, there probably wasn’t enough compliance,” Forlini said.

Forlini, whose background is as a financial planner, said most people don’t read the mountain of disclosures.

“Are we protecting consumers or are we protecting ourselves or the government?” Forlini asked.

“I’d like to see Michigan be the best place to charter a credit union,” Forlini said. “I think we’re one of the best right now.”
