Manistee Public Employees CU Merges into Filer CU

Manistee Public Employees CU’s merger into Filer CU became official March 31. The combined credit union will keep the Filer CU name.

“Manistee Public Employees Credit Union (MPE) has an excellent reputation in our market,” said Filer CEO Patty Preuss in a press release. “We are very excited for this opportunity to combine the success that they’ve had in this industry with what Filer Credit Union has been able to do, especially our growth over the past five years.”

MPECU Manager Karen Daly is retiring. The credit union’s membership has approved the merger, as has the NCUA and state Department of Insurance and Financial Services. Both credit union boards also approved the merger.

Preuss said Filer has not made a decision about whether it will maintain the MPECU location as a Filer branch.

MPECU had 300 members and $1 million in assets. Before the merger, Filer had $117 million in assets and 8,500 members.
