2018 Community Reinvestment Report

Credit unions have a long history of helping individual members and communities
across Michigan. Simply put, our focus is on “people helping people” to improve
thrift, thereby increasing financial health, which in turn strengthens communities.

The financial services landscape can sometimes seem like dangerous territory,
with bad actors trying to take advantage of working families attempting to save
enough to make ends meet, start a college fund and finance a dignified retirement.
As not-for-profit cooperatives, credit unions have always been trusted partners,
helping members turn their financial dreams into reality.

With more than five million members in Michigan, we can make a big difference in
the lives of our members and the communities in which they live.

Because we believe in the critical importance of financial education to our collective
long-term success, credit unions have focused on providing our members and
communities with access to the building blocks of financial fitness. From student-run
school branches to financial reality fairs that teach money management, credit unions
make positive impacts in the lives of thousands of Michigan residents each year.

Inside this year’s Community Reinvestment Report, you will see the credit union
social mission in action in a variety of ways around the state of Michigan. The
common thread across these initiatives is a firm belief that we are always stronger
when we work together to meet a shared goal, coupled with a commitment to
help improve the financial resiliency of our members.

We invite you to join us as we work together in the cooperative spirit to improve the
lives of our fellow Michiganders.

Best,

Ken Ross
