Michigan Credit Union Community Remembers Roxie Willis
Roxana June (King) Willis, formerly of Blue Ox Credit Union, died on March 8, 2018. Roxie served Blue Ox Credit Union for 39 years — 17 of which as the president and CEO.
Roxie was born on Jan. 6, 1942 to Ted and June King of Battle Creek. She married the love of her life and “partner in all things fun,” Bob Willis, on Oct. 24, 1959. She never forgot the love of her life, even as she struggled with dementia, as evidenced by the gleam in her eye and the smile that would light her up whenever she spotted him.
Roxie tackled all of life’s adventures with her entire being, from motorcycling across the country to mastering golf to becoming the CEO of School Employees Credit Union. Even as dementia took her later years in a different direction, Roxie always had a smile for friends and family whether or not she remembered them in the moment.
Roxie lived every moment to the fullest until dementia took her later years in a different direction. However, even if she wasn’t exactly sure who her friends and family were she would have a smile for them anyway.
Roxie is survived by her husband, Bob, sisters Joan (Buzz) McNally and Susan McClintock; daughters Diana (Ron) Herges and Rebecca (Steve) Creaton; grandchildren Bryan Herges and McKenzie (Ben) Brown; and more than friends Gary and Marilyn McMurtrie. Her family wants to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Brookdale Health Care Facility for the kindness extended to them and especially to Roxie while she was in their care.
