Metsger’s nomination to NCUA Board Approved

The Senate Banking Committee approved President Barack Obama’s nomination of Rick Metsger to the NCUA Board. Metsger, if confirmed by the Senate, will succeed Gigi Hyland who left the post in October after her term expired in August 2011. Metsger’s term would run through Aug. 2, 2017.

In addition to serving in the Oregon Senate, from 1993-2001 Metsger was a member of the board of directors at Portland Teachers CU. He was also a board member of Financial Beginnings, a nonprofit organization focused on increasing students’ financial literacy. Metsger promised in his testimony last month the “continued safety and soundness of our nation’s credit union system.”

Next up is a vote by the full Senate.
