The 2007 MCUL Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) is coming up fast, but those planning on attending still have time to acquire an essential piece of GAC attire — a MCULAF lapel pin.
A long-time staple of Michigan credit unions' state PAC fund raising, the pins are available in five contribution levels — Chairman's Club ($500), Presidential Club ($250), Senate Club ($100), Congressional Club ($50) and Capitol Club ($25).
The MCUL GAC is slated for Wednesday and Thursday, March 14-15, at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Lansing.
In all good humor, MCUL Political Affairs Coordinator Nancy Short noted that "nobody will want to be seen at the MCUL GAC without a MCULAF lapel pin."
"The GAC will once again bring together credit union leaders from across Michigan to focus on our state's new political landscape, critical legislative and regulatory issues impacting credit unions — and the importance of effective PAC fund raising," Short said.
"Wearing your lapel pin shows you're supporting a strong MCULAF and recognize the importance of PAC fund raising."
Lapel pin sales raised some $65,000 for the state PAC last year, or about 62 percent of all the MCULAF money raised in 2006.
"We're hoping for another strong response to the lapel pins in 2007 to help keep our state PAC as strong and effective as possible," Short said.
The 2007 lapel pin designs can be viewed online at http://mcul.cusiteonline.com/governmental_affairs/mcullaf_mculaf.php . This link also includes an online contribution form and a form that can be downloaded, printed and mailed in with a standard check.
Federal and state laws require that a person purchasing a state PAC lapel pin complete all of the information requested and make his or her contribution with a personal check, personal money order or personal credit card. Corporate funds cannot be accepted.
