Credit unions have long been involved in the important
task of providing financial education to their members, whether assisting
with the teaching of financial education in Michigan schools, operating
student branches within the schools with assistance from student
volunteers, or offering financial counseling and budgeting classes.
- Michigan credit unions collectively they operate
296 student credit union branches throughout the state.
- 46% of CRI Survey respondents reported that
a credit union employee(s) volunteered to teach financial education
in the classroom in
the last 12 months.
- During the 2006-07 school year, 134 classroom
presenters across the state conducted presentations
for 42,000 students on personal finance.
