Our Commitment to Financial Education

Credit union in-school branches are actual credit union branches that operate on the school premises, accepting deposits from students. Often, credit union branches operate in concert with classroom instruction on personal finance. In other words, students are not only making regular deposits at the student branch, they’re learning why it’s important to manage their money wisely. Student run credit union branches are a REAL Deal to young people across our state.

While credit union professionals oversee operations at a student branch, the students themselves run the credit union. They assume the roles of branch manager, bookkeeper, teller, and computer operator, accepting and processing transactions and interacting with their student peers. Generally, students who are interested in becoming a volunteer worker must complete a job application and interview for the position.

By the Numbers

Michigan credit unions operate 311 in-school credit union branches throughout the state.

CP Federal Credit Union (Jackson) operates the largest number of branches with 41, while Community Financial Members Credit Union (Plymouth) operates 23 student branches.
