Our Commitment to Financial Education

CreditunionsROCK.com was created in 2000 to both educate young adults about financial issues and to spread the credit union philosophy – that people are worth more at a credit union – to a group that makes up 28 percent of the U.S. population and has a multi-billion dollar purchasing power.

Notably, while this group demonstrates tremendous technological smarts and wields formidable financial power, it also is one of the most poorly educated groups in matters of personal finance.

In fact, most Michigan high school students graduate with few of the personal financial skills they need to support themselves, according to a 2001 survey of graduating high school seniors conducted by the Michigan Jump$tart Coalition for Financial Literacy. The same test was administered in 2002 by the National Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy and yielded similar results.
