Vendors Support CU Difference With FOCUS

During fall of 2008, MCUL created the FOCUS (Friends of Credit Unions) program as a means for credit union product and service providers to support cooperative advertising. As a FOCUS member, a company contributes annually to the “Credit Union Difference” cooperative advertising campaign and receives increased exposure through MCUL events and publications.

While FOCUS membership is beneficial for participating vendors, it also helps support the entire credit union community. Cooperative advertising spreads the message of credit unions as trustworthy financial institutions through radio and Web-based advertisements and focuses not on individual credit unions, but the industry as a whole. Through FOCUS membership, vendors are helping support the very credit unions that utilize their products or services.

With the Michigan economy struggling and consumers looking for trusted places to save and borrow, cooperative advertising has become even more of a key initiative.

“I believe that cooperative advertising has never been more important,” said Karen Church, CEO of ELGA CU. “We must continually remind consumers of the good credit unions do, and that they are able to belong. We must take advantage of every opportunity to educate through the media, and cooperative advertising allows us to better spread that message.“

Credit unions are encouraged to ask their vendors if they have considered becoming FOCUS partners and visit the MCUL Web site for more information on the program. A link is available on the MCUL homepage. FOCUS partners are also identifiable at events by their lapel pins that match the FOCUS logo.
