Wolverine/Spartan Rivalry Plays Out at AC&E (Misc News: June 6, 2014)
GRAND RAPIDS - The age-old Michigan State University and University of Michigan rivalry played out on stage at Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates’ Annual Convention & Exposition. This time, two greats, one a credit union executive with deep ties to Michigan State University, another a football phenom who bleeds blue and maize, went head to head.
Former University of Michigan star, Heisman trophy winner and Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard served as a guest speaker. At the end he called soon-to-be retiring MSUFCU CEO Patrick McPharlin to the stage to give him quite the gift.

Howard was on hand for the AC&E to talk about leadership.
“To me, a leader has to be selfless,” Howard said. “You always put your team goals ahead of yourself. (UM football) Coach (Bo) Schembechler was a great man of integrity."
Howard said great leaders like Schembechler can help a person become all he or she can be.
“He helped you realize a potential you never knew existed,” Howard said. “That’s what great leaders do.”
