Michigan First Explains Jump into Social Media (Misc News: August 7, 2012)
Michigan First CU is getting recognition for its major push into social media marketing.
The credit union’s Linda Douglas, vice president of marketing, took part in a lengthy Q&A for the financial industry publication The Financial Brand explaining how since April 2009, Michigan First has jumped into this new area of marketing in a big way. Click here to read the full story.
Douglas said that the credit union entered the social media landscape to coincide with the rollout of its enhanced online banking service.
“Social media channels were an integral part of sharing the news of this new service with embedded personal financial management capabilities,” Douglas told the website.
To manage the changing marketing landscape, Douglas reorganized the marketing department into two teams, digital experience and marketing experience.
One of the keys was hiring a social media specialist. Fortunately, the credit union didn’t have to go very far to find someone to fill the role. Janelle O’Hara had served a year as Michigan First’s Young & Free “spokester,” in a special program started by Currency Marketing.
O’Hara now monitors social media channels, drives conversation about the credit union and serves a “first line of defense” to address member questions, comments or concerns.
“Janelle also serves as an active internal voice, helping to find and share interesting stories about Michigan First – from member testimonials to quick video demonstrations of our unique member-focused technologies,” Douglas said.
