Update: 'Save to Win' to be Featured on CBS News Soon (Misc News: January 8, 2012)
CBS News will soon highlight Michigan’s prize-linked credit union savings program, Save to Win, on its national morning show.
The story was originally scheduled to air Tuesday, but due to network programming changes, it is now expected to air later this week on the new ‘CBS This Morning’ program. MCUL & Affiliates will communicate the exact day and time the segment will air once that has been decided by CBS.
Interview segments for the piece were taped earlier this month with Freakonomics co-author Steven Dubner, MCUL & Affliates CEO David Adams, Communicating Arts CEO Hank Hubbard, and Davinia Brown, a CACU member who participates in ‘Save to Win.’
This year, 43 Michigan CUs are taking part in ‘Save To Win,’ the program that rewards members for saving their money by entering them into a $100,000 grand prize drawing for every $25 deposit. Monthly prizes are also awarded, and at the end of the year all participants walk away with the deposits they’ve made plus interest.
CBS News business and economics correspondent Rebecca Jarvis, who will present the segment, says the network chose to feature the program because of its success in attracting low to moderate income populations who had not previously participated in a savings program. “It seems like a win-win for credit unions and for members, so it begs the question, why aren’t other states doing the same?” Jarvis said.
‘CBS This Morning’ airs weekdays from 7-9 a.m. Check your local listings for the channel.
