‘Operation Grassroots’ Added to MCUL Homepage   (Misc News: January 13, 2011)

In an effort to facilitate easier access to the MCUL’s grassroots advocacy web pages, the league has created a new tool on its homepage called “Operation Grassroots.”

The tool allows readers to link directly to web pages devoted to MCUL’s legislative and regulatory grassroots action requests. Credit unions are already familiar with MCUL’s Alerts and Comment Calls involving state and federal legislative matters as well as regulatory Comment Calls and Letters. This tool makes the search much simpler. Action Alerts, Comment Calls and Comment Letters will continue to be sent individually to credit unions soliciting their input, and will continue to be posted for later reference.

"The MCUL has brought back the 'Operation Grassroots' term for our action center because it reflects an ongoing commitment to the element of our lobbying that matters most," MCUL & Affiliates CEO David Adams said. “We hope that credit union leaders will use the action center to channel their anger, frustration and constructive input so that we can affect positive change on legislative and regulatory processes. We have always had the elements of this action center on our website. 'Operation Grassroots' will make our action center activities more visible and prominent on our website."

Advocacy is a crucial part of what the MCUL does, but a strong partnership with affiliated credit unions is needed more than ever as Congress, state legislatures and regulatory agencies continue to impose new compliance mandates that are costly, time consuming and divert precious resources away from the primary goal of serving members.

Stories from credit union professionals are important to the feedback state and federal officials need to consider as they weigh the costs and benefits in developing new laws and regulations. This grassroots tool is meant to make it easier for our credit union officials to get involved and to follow what MCUL is doing on their behalf.

Located in the upper right corner of the homepage, Operation Grassroots includes links to legislative Action Alerts, legislative Comment Calls, regulatory Comment Calls and regulatory Comment Letters.

The links send users to pages where they can see the actions the league is taking on the issues and where they can offer their input on proposed legislation and regulations based on the posted requests for comment and action.
