International Credit Union Day Theme Chosen for 2010 (Monitor: May 17, 2010)
The theme of the Oct. 21 International Credit Union Day celebration is “Local. Trusted. Serving You.” The theme was developed by Amanda Vester, marketing coordinator for Indiana State University FCU in Terre Haute. Her submission was selected by an international committee of representatives from the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), CUNA, Credit Union Central of Canada, the National Cooperative Business Association, and the Canadian Co-operative Association.
"At a time when the public's trust is repeatedly compromised by large commercial banks, credit unions' commitment to their local communities and to providing trustworthy member service could not be more important," said Pete Crear, WOCCU president/ CEO. "This October, let us all celebrate these fundamental credit union qualities that offer tremendous opportunity for the growth of financial cooperatives worldwide."
The MCUL will again offer articles to be used by credit unions and news media for International Credit Union Week, as well as links to graphics and other resources. Last year’s materials are currently housed on the MCUL’s Credit Union Week Web page. Stay tuned to MCUL publications for updates on when updated materials will be available as fall approaches.
